An annual event outside London, bringing together travel media from across the UK & Ireland, with PR representatives of travel brands from all over the world.

In 2026, we are taking the event to the North East of England, where the event will be hosted in Newcastle

Following a successful event in Chester, in July 2025, we’re looking forward to a great couple of days in Newcastle in June 2026!

“Media Getaway is such an important event, it means a lot to those of us outside London and I hope you’ll keep doing it for many years to come”

Sarah Gillespie – Freelance Journalist

Hosted by Destination North East England, alongside Newcastle International Airport, and centred in Newcastle, Media Getaway 2026 will give PR representatives of global travel brands the chance to get away with UK & Irish travel media for a 3-day event, with plenty of ways to meet through formal and informal networking opportunities.

The event will see media attending from all over Europe, particularly from all parts of the UK & Ireland, including people not usually encountered at London events.

“I’ve been to all of the Media Getaways. Ticking off UK cities I haven’t spent enough time in. It’s a bit of networking, finding out about a nice city and some press trips. It works for me!”

Lisa Minot – Head of Travel, The Sun

About North East England

North East England is home to more castles than any other region in England; some of the darkest skies in Europe; 2 UNESCO World Heritage sites at Durham Cathedral and Hadrian’s Wall and miles of golden sands. Combining the three cities Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland with the beauty and space of Northumberland, this must-see destination is a haven for foodie fanatics, culture seekers, sporting fans, adrenalin junkies and garden lovers.

Newcastle, your base for Media Getaway 2026, with its thriving nightlife; award-winning restaurant scene and world-class cultural offer Newcastle is one of the friendliest and welcoming cities in the UK.

Explore the Quayside with its stunning vistas of iconic bridges such as the Tyne Bridge and Gateshead Millennium Bridge or stand on the rooftop of the building that gave Newcastle it’s name – Newcastle Castle. A city of passionate sports fans a tour of St James’ Park, the home of Newcastle United is a must for any visitor.

North East England is a region of striking contrasts and rich experiences. One day, you can be soaking up the culture, cuisine, and energy of vibrant cities like Newcastle or Durham; the next, you’re strolling along a secluded beach in Northumberland or exploring the ramparts of a dramatic coastal castle like Bamburgh.

We’re also the backdrop to many a blockbuster movie with Lindisfarne providing the setting for Danny Boyle’s latest epic thriller, 28 Years Later and Durham Cathedral and Alnwick Castle used in several of the Harry Potter movies.
